Took Both Boys To The Pediatric Dentist

October 18th, 2011

A year ago I had taken my then 3 year old to the dentist for the first time.  You can read about it HERE.  I procrastinated on taking him back after six months and then little brother had some pretty dirty teeth so we scheduled both of them to go.  This was my almost two year olds first time going.

The recommended age for starting your child at the dentist is as young as one year old.  I admit I couldn’t do it that young.  But I can see where catching any major issues early on would be of great benefit.  At almost two years old my youngest had lots of junk on his bottom teeth.  I was glad that there was nothing serious and they just needed a good cleaning.

We went to a local Pediatric dentist here in Ormond Beach and the ladies were wonderful with my boys.  Gavin was called back while I was finishing paper work for my little guy and I admit I was nervous that he would follow through and get his x-rays this time.  They said he did great and I didn’t hear any screaming so I hope what they said was true.

This time he actually laid in the big chair for us and did awesome.  He was able to do it all without me and I went and held my little guy in my lap so they could look at his teeth.

E didn’t so as great as big brother and cried most of the time but the good thing about the crying was that his mouth was wide open for them to clean his teeth.  Plus we were able to get an x-ray of the trouble spots to make sure there were no cavities.  He was such a trooper.  I didn’t get any pics of him actually doing it because he was in my lap with his head on the ladies lap.

He was so happy :)

They were both excited to look at the turtles outside and the fish they had.

We all got prizes too! The boys of course received stickers and a small toy and they also each received a t-shirt!

Plus mommie got a shopping bag to use too!  I was excited to get a prize, not many places give the mommie a prize too!!

I was SO proud of my boys and how well they did.  I kept telling G my oldest all day how proud I was of him for doing so well.  He is such a big boy and when he does so well doing big things like this it certainly confirms it.

I found our dentist by doing a search online for the area and then asking friends if they went there.  I knew a pediatric dentist would be a better bet for the boys than my normal family dentist.  The extra bonus was the wellness plan they have.  We can pay just a little bit every month for a year and that includes two exams and all that goes with them.  It is a much better deal than paying for two normal visits without it.  We don’t have dental insurance so the wellness plan is a blessing for us and cheaper than getting a small dental plan.

If you don’t have dental insurance don’t be afraid to ask if they have a plan of some sort your if you can pay a little bit each month.  A lot of doctors will work with you.

What age did you start your kids at the dentist?
