Handprint Christmas Ornaments – Another Fun Gift

December 14th, 2011

This is a new craft that I tried out this year with my little guys.  I found a box of four clear glass ornaments and figured I could do something with them.  I decided to do handprints of the boys on them.

I made sure that I had a string attached to the top of the ornament so that I had a way of hanging it up right after we got done putting the handprint on them.  After making sure I had the paint, paintbrush and ornament ready to go I painted the hand with acrylic craft paint (about $1.00 at Walmart and craft stores) press the hand lightly on the ornament and hand up to dry.  Repeat as desired if you have more than one.  Make sure to wash the hand quickly when done.  The paint does come off easily though with soap and water.

I decided to put both boys handprints on the same ornament.  One on one side and one on the other.  My oldest wanted blue but we use it so much there was only a little bit in it so he settled for red!

After letting the handprint dry (it dries fast) then I painted their names on the sides and the year on the top.

I love how they turned out.  You could also cut strips of colored paper or get colored confetti and put it inside the ornament for more color.  I thought about this but to be honest I am afraid that I will break it and not get the top back on.  I am going to give one to the grandparent and keep one or two for myself.  I plan on giving my boys all their ornaments when they move out.  They will have a huge collection to start with their own trees!

I am going to try to find some ribbon and add a bow on the top to add a little bit more to it.

Have you done a handprint ornament before?
