My Second Birth Story – Evin Shane

June 7th, 2012

After having my first baby boy as a C-section at the last minute I opted to have my second one that same way! Even though it is major surgery I wasn’t scared of it and rather welcomed it after laboring all night the first time and not being able to deliver in the end.

We scheduled our C-section several weeks in advance and I was excited to have a date in my head to look forward to.  We got up early on a Monday morning.  I left my oldest at home with grandparents and he was running a fever when I left him. I felt SO bad for leaving him behind without mommie.  I hardly ever had left him and it was hard to do. I don’t think he fully understood what was happening either and I felt bad about that.

We got checked into our room the usual getting the hospital gear on and getting prepped for surgery.  Get to wear a cool hat and everything.  I think the part that hurt the most before surgery was them trying to get my iv in and it kept not working right.

It was really weird to actually walk into the operating room and sit on the table.  Since my iv was still not working right the guy rinsed it out quick (which REALLY hurts) and it worked good after that.  I guess that was better than doing it over a third time.  The epidural is just a bee sting in the back and all was well.  It didn’t take long for little Evin to make his appearance and he was vocal about it.  His little cry made me cry.  He was healthy and doing well.  This experience was so much different than the first one.  We had our picture taken with him while I was getting sewn up and my husband was able to cut his cord where he wasn’t with our first one.  It was a lot more relaxed.

I was in recovery for at least an hour (always a lonely place to be) and then I was wheeled in to see him again in the nursery and was able to hold him for the first time.  I loved being able to do that this time too since he wasn’t hooked up to anything.  Since he was doing well and didn’t need to be monitored he was brought to my room very soon after I got settled in my room and didn’t leave my side.

I am thinking I will write a post about c-sections and what to expect next!
