Homemade Lasagna By Ally :)

July 26th, 2012

My family absolutely loves this lasagna recipe and I impress myself that I can actually make it and they like it.  Tonight at dinner my son ate one and a half pieces of it and bread and a popsicle for dessert.  He’s a growing boy and loves mommies lasagna.

Here is how I make

SIMPLY LASAGNA

Prep time 20 minutes, Total 1 hour and 35 minutes

What you need:

1 lb. ground beef

1 egg

2 1/2 cups of Mozzerella cheeese (which is about 1/2 lb or one small package or half of a big package)

1 container of Ricotta cheese (15 oz.)

1/4 cup  Parmesan cheese

1 jar (biggest jar) spaghetti sauce  I prefer to use Prego and they come in the huge jars

1 cup water

12 lasagna noodles, uncooked

Lasagna right before baking it

Lasagna out of the oven

Preheat oven to 350, need 13×9 inch baking pan, I always use my glass baking dish.

brown meat in large skillet and drain.

Mix egg, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese (keeping 1/4 cup to the side for top), ricotta and parmesan cheese together in bowl.

stir the drained meat into the spaghetti sauce.  Put one cup of water inside the empty sauce jar and shake and then add it to the sauce (with the cover on it of course).

spread 1 cup of sauce onto the bottom of the 13×9 inch backing dish, top with 3 lasagna noodles, top noodles with one-third of the cheese mixture.  (I put three spoonfuls on each piece for a total of nine spoonfuls and spread gently over the top, the original recipe says you don’t have to do this but I always have) repeat layers twice.  top with remaining 3 noodles and then the remaining sauce.  sprinkle with about 1/4 cup of the mozzarella cheese.

Spray foil with cooking spray so it won’t stick to the cheese on top and cover the dish.

Bake for 45 minutes at 350, remove foil and bake for 15 more minutes or until heated through.  It is MUCH better if it is able to sit for awhile.  Original recipe says 15 minutes but if you can do a lot longer it tastes much better.  I like to bake mine first thing in the morning let it sit for a little bit and then warm up pieces for dinner with some garlic bread.

Makes 12 servings.  We usually can get two meals out of this with our family of four!

If you make it let me know how it goes! Also if you have questions let me know I am more than glad to help.  I think it is easy and OH SO YUMMY too :) Enjoy!!
