10 Years Ago Today

August 13th, 2012

10 years ago today I first heard of this guy named Shane from Daytona Beach Florida.

It all began because of my sister.  At the time I worked two part time jobs.  One for Awana as an office assistant and one as a dispatcher for a plumbing company.  Two totally opposite jobs I know.  She called me while I was working at the plumbing job and said that I really needed to listen to Dobson’s radio broadcast that day.  They were talking about eHarmony.com and how it matches people together.  I told her that since I was working there was no way that I could listen and talk on the radio and phone.  Later when I had the chance to be on a computer I checked it out.  Next thing I know I was filling out my personality profile (lots & lots of question) and was getting signed up to possibly get a match.

I don’t remember how long it was before I got a match but it was August 13, 2002 that I got the email notification that I had a match from Daytona Beach named Shane.  I admit that he was not the only one that I was matched with but was one of the first three.

We asked questions back and forth for awhile and slowly gave out more and more information about each other.  We eventually exchanged email, then IM, then we had our first phone call, then first meeting. We had a long distance relationship and than a year later we were engaged.  A year after that we were married.  I am not sure how eHarmony is now and I am sure it has changed but I am thankful that 10 years ago it allowed me to meet my future husband.  It was a great experience for us.

Day after we got engaged

How did you meet your husband or wife?  Do you have a fun story to tell?

My mother used to come home from Winn-Dixie @ Bellair Plaza every week and tell me about a cute bag boy that worked there. (It was Doug) Sometime later a girl came into PE class with a boy’s sweater. The boy was a senior named Doug Marteeny. I remember wondering who this Doug Marteeny was. Don’t remember how much later, but finally was introduced to Doug by a friend at the beach. Fate?? I think it was God’s plan. We ended up married for 46 years.
