Double Check Your Purchases – Glad I Did!

May 21st, 2012

I was making a birthday purchase for my almost 5 year old the other day.  Fun to go shopping kidless for a few minutes and get out of the house until you have a bad experience.

I was getting a bike that I had a 20% off coupon for and was excited to get it.  Stood in line, they got the bike from the back in the box (saves us $15.00 putting it together ourselves) and the guy signed my paper and he offered to take it to my car.  I thought it was really nice of him to want to take it to the car for me.  I opened up the back and he proceeded to put it in and I never had to touch it.

I went to get in the car and drive off but thank God he urged me to take a look and just make sure that it was the bike that I wanted.  I couldn’t tell just by looking the way the box was so I opened it back up and turned it over looking for the picture.  When I did I found a HUGE hole in the side of the box.  I was not happy and I was also disappointed that I would now have to deal with the situation.  I do not like confrontation!  I looked inside of the ripped part and noticed that part of it was scratched and possibly one other thing was broke, not good!!

I grabbed a cart and went back in and waited to speak to someone.  I explained that I was disappointed in being given a ripped box without being told it was ripped and thought that the guy pulled a fast one on me.  She gladly returned it BUT they had no more in stock, *sigh* what to do now?!  Since I was purchasing it a month early I had time to order another one.  So we returned one, bought another one and signed papers for the purchase.  The entire ordeal was not fun for me and it should have been fun buying something for my big boys birthday.

I say ALL of this to say PLEASE check things that you purchase.  Look at the boxes and I hate to say it don’t trust anyone.  Yes, there are honest people but there are also those that don’t care.  I am thankful that I didn’t get all the way home and then find the torn box.  Just be careful mommie friends and happy shopping :)

Have you had a situation like this before? what did you end up doing?
